Chloe, Be My Minotaur is a new solo show by Dale Adcock

Dale Adcock makes drawings out of his imagination. Autobiographical details, remembered facts and fictional scenarios are combined in his monochrome pen and ink works with an urgency that conveys a sense of leaping from one thought or emotion to another. Whether feather light or worked almost to the point of complete obscurity, there is a palpable intensity to Adcock's extensive play with line and tone, non-representational forms and figuration. In groups, they appear as fluid in style as source, yet certain evocative details inevitably prompt historical comparisons: from Primitivist Picassos to the portentous symbolism of Moby Dick as interpreted by American etcher Rockwell Kent.

There is no direct correlation between Adcock's separately conceived titles and the individual works that make up each series, exhibited here for the first time. Sometimes the back of the paper is titled then the image drawn on the front, or vice versa. This process establishes a fundamentally existential dialectic between image and text sometimes serendipitous, sometimes abstract.

Dale Adcock graduated from Chelsea's MA Fine Art course in 2005. His works have been selected for group exhibitions at London's ICA, the Centre for Drawing, Florence Loewy in Paris and Hochschule Fur Bildende Kunste Braunschweig, Erasmus Residency. Adcock lives and works in London.
